Something to change things up...

The doctor that Ryan saw on tuesday suggested he have more fiber in his diet.
Guess what? I need fiber in my diet too!
(I won't stop you from guessing why. )

Being the foodie that I am, my thoughts went to one thing and one thing only.... High Fiber Recipes!
As you may know, beans are super high in fiber---but dear Ryan hates beans.
MAKES A FACE AT BEANS.
(then again he also makes a face when he eats fruit...another story)
But I like beans. What can I say- I'm Mexican.
Mmm. Frijoles.
(Pic belongs to eauthenticmexicanrecipes.com)

Yeah, sure, one could just pop a fiber pill... but that's too easy.  Plus, it's good to eat healthy.

So, dear blog, the High Fiber Diet starts next week.... I'm excited!

It turns out I dont have the Ass Cancer

The process of finding out if I had the ass cancer was probably worse than going through a painful death of the ass cancer.

Also, OK Computer is still a fantastic album

That is all

I'll post more

When our lives actually become interesting.
Also, Ryan loves my cooking! YAY

Also, the movie Contact is ridiculously long, omg. But it was still good.

And lastly---Diet Lemon Iced Tea from a can Sucks. UGH. 7 out of 12 cans to go.... :/  I hate throwing stuff away--even when i really want to.

Our weekend

Friday- We got pizza at Austin's pizza. Food was decent. I ate more than I should have as always. It slightly drizzled outside while we ate. We took the bus back to his apartment, and no less than 30 minutes after arriving- I fell asleep. For 3 hours.lol.
Then we watched Contagion later that night, in a packed theater. Not only were we super close to the screen (despite being 15 min early) but we decided it was okay to order food.
Not the best idea. Especially during that scene where they did the autopsy. I ate as fast as I could and kept my face down, listening but not watching. I bet the couple next to us thought we were some sick fucks eating during this movie. lol. It wasn't that bad anyway.
Then bed time.
Cindy came over Saturday. Ryan and I woke up extremely late. Man, we're such sleepers. By the time we were up and ready to do stuff, albeit still in pajamas, it was 1pm. Cindy no doubt mocked us in her head. lol.
Thinking of where to eat, due to our lack of groceries, I insisted on going to La Mexicana Bakery/restaurant. The website looked pretty promising and authentic.
It was a disaster and I will never go back and I felt so bad for taking Ryan and Cindy there. -__- ugh.
The bakery part looked better though.
Anyway, Cindy got picked up by her really nice boyfriend later and Ryan and I were once again left to our own devices. We chilled like always. Made dinner. Read. Video gamed. Watched a movie. And went to bed. (the usual)
TODAY, was a new day once again. We really do need to start our homework soon...
He got up at 10. I got up at 11. Nothing happened in between then and 2pm when we decided to check out another mexican restaurant.
I found this crazy cool blog, Tacojournalism.blogspot.com.
They check out all the local austin taco places. Whether in the form of a truck, a stand, or a restaurant. And thus we found a great little place.
Taqueria Los Jaliscienses (the blog agrees its a bit of a tongue twister)
The food was delicious  (oh and ryan was the only non mexican there, haha- but that's how you know its good!) (this makes up for Chuy's mexican restaurant, when i was the only  mexican there! ironic huh)
So yeah- we're going back. And taking Ryan's parents there one day---hopefully. Maybe I can tag along. That'd be nice.

Finally we're cookin'

We made some fucking badass peach (nectarine, shh) cobbler. I was the shit. For the cobbler part I made a quick 3ingredient sugar cookie.

And for dinner we had that Chicken Marsala
(the marsala wine tastes like shit btw)

And Caesar Salad. The dressing we bought was alright. A little disappointing.

So Ryan and I went to a liquor store. We were there looking for Marsala Wine, obviously. Neither of us are drinkers, nor do we plan on being drinkers in the future. So since he just turned 21, we figured it was no big deal, lets just buy some and walk out and happy happy done. Ok, so everything goes smoothly until we're at the checkout counter.
"Can I see both of your ID's please?"
me: hold up, she said BOTH? oh shit...
Ryan shows her his ID. Then she looks over at me.
I admit to her that i'm only 20, but we're just getting this wine for cooking, honestly.
NOPE.
"I'm sorry. I can't sell this to you. Everyone in the group has to be 21"
UGH, i shoulda stayed in the car.
So embarassing. It made me not want to make the Chicken Marsala anymore...
Fortunately, HEB's got our back. And we got a super cheap bottle for 2 bucks.
the end.

We took a little trip to Hey Cupcake

The iconic food truck on SoCo
We didn't go to the truck though. We went to a building location that was nearby. It wasn't crowded at all. I guess nobody wants cupcakes at dinner time... ;P

It was pretty dang good.

Ryan got "The Standard"

and I got the "Vanilla Dream"

And the dude totally pressured Ryan to get whipped cream on his.. Only it wasn't only "on" the cupcake. It was shoved into the cupcake itself too.

But it was worth it, says Ryan.
'Tis agreed, says I.   (i didn't really say that)(whipped cream was fantastic tho)

And this was pretty much our dinner. Oh, College Days!

I slept in my room for the first time

It was hot.

You know what else is hot?

The food that I'm not eating.
(so hungry...)

This weekend expect some food pics...
Ryan and I have a weekend menu planned.

Chicken Marsala
Caesar Salad
and Nectarine Cobbler using this lovely recipe: http://gardenofeatingblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/eatwell-recipe-21-fresh-peach-cobbler.html
;P

Too bad my appetite is still being weird.
Maybe these foods will convince it to liven up a bit.

"Come on Appetite! You can do it! Who's a good girl?!"

As you have probably heard, there was a major fire in Bastrop, Texas. (to say the least)
While driving back to Austin, after a long labor day weekend at home, we drove right through it. More or less. We had to detour because they blocked off part of 71. From far a way the smoke gave off a cloud-like appearance. But as we got closer we became more convinced that it was smoke from the fire.

You can see how incredibly smokey it was. I mean, it was about 2 in the afternoon and when we got further ahead it became so dark and just different.

I feel bad for the people that lost their homes, their valuables, and their pets. Oh the pets. Ryan tells me they were instructed to leave the animals behind as they evacuated.

Speaking of smoke, It actually hit austin today.
These past two days its been rather cold, and all of a sudden today, like around noon, a wave of smoke hit campus. You could see it, smell it, and feel it. It was very strange. I wondered if they would cancel classes. But they didn't. And the smoke left anyway.
Here are pics from a different angle  (as we detoured off of 71)

SIGH. And this isn't the first or last wildfire in Texas.
